All You Never Ever Needed To Know

This sallow faced youth on the left is myself shortly after turning age 18 during the 3rd term at Credenhill when we were the Senior Entry. After passing out from Hereford I was posted to RAF Colerne on  the outskirts of Bath. Colerne was the major servicing base for the Hercules fleet based 10 miles away at RAF Lyneham. During my time at Colerne I worked mostly on POL with a short spell in SCAF

Following the closure of Colerne I was posted to RAF Lyneham and I found myself polishing a chair in SCAF for most of my time there.

As my term was coming to a close and having been turned down for further service because of a surfeit of applicants I applied for my last tour of duty close to my home town (Dundee) at RAF Leuchars.

Arriving at Leuchars I found that they had no place to put me so I spent the first 3 months hanging about in the Barrack stores with the civvies, counting cups and saucers and rolling carpets  (who says the Air Force don't know how to use a mans potential to the full). Eventually I was moved to the POL Section which was quite an eye opener as all Aviation Fuel at Leuchars was brought in by train to an unloading point and  pumped to the installations from there. The station had two small diesel shunting engines which brought up the tanks from the mainline, 4 at a time to be coupled up and offloaded. Believe me you haven't lived till you ride on the  footplate of your very own engine. It was a very enjoyable last tour of duty and I was discharged in October 1982.

footnote: Leuchars fuel still comes in by train but is offloaded 19 tanks at a time at a very secure location away from the camp and is pumped through a hardened pipeline to the station.

On leaving the Air Force in 1982 I entered Local Government working for the Local Water Board within the Stores complex, I worked there for 10 years before moving on to the Engineering world and then into the Construction Industry, both jobs were on the clerical side and were not the most fulfilling jobs so looking for a challenge I currently work for Tesco.Com

I am married to Edna (right) with 3 daughters, a son, one beautiful granddaughter (left) and  delightful twin grandsons born in October 2004(below).

I am a Dundee United fan who is overjoyed at the relegation of the "DEES"

Hope this is enough info for anyone who is remotely interested
